THE BLOG:
Geri Work is a source of information and conversation about the needs of social workers as they work with the aging population.
So much of our information comes from what was gained through discussion on web based media. Google, and other search engines show is the answers to many of our questions. Blogs and discussion forums gives us a chance to talk about topics which we find interesting. These topics can help advance and disperse the knowledge we have gained in our respective fields. The topic of Geriatric Social Work is one which I find quite interesting. This blog offers me a venue to lay out my thoughts, draw in readers interested in similar subjects, and hopefully instigate further discussion.
THE AUTHOR:
Jaimie Edelbrock, MSW, LSW
My interests in older adults stems back to my first job, at the age of 16, as a server at a local Retirement Community. I developed an interest in the resident’s stories, humors, and struggles. As those interests continued to grow so too did my understanding of the population as resilient and diverse. I began college with my focus and sights set on understanding and serving this population.
I received my Master and Bachelor of Social Work from Loyola University Chicago. As a Geriatric Hartford Foundation Leadership Fellow, I had the opportunity work at Northwestern University’s Cognitive Neurology and Alzheimer’s Disease Center. I have spent time researching the role of the School Social Workers in the intervention and service provision of grandparents raising grandchildren.
Currently, I am working with the Alzheimer’s Association, National Office as the Online Community and Support Group Specialist. I am also interested in research to understand how services can be better provided to the older adult population.
